Henri Bonneau Chateauneuf du Pape 'Henri Bonneau' 2018
A bit of a 'wow' wine for me when tasted in August 2024 and my first time trying the wines of the recently deceased Henri Bonneau. I couldn't help but compare this to the handful of wines i have tried over the years from cult-hero Rayas. It's got a bit an 'x' factor here but certainly exists as an outlier in terms of style. There's a huge amount of life and energy here, yet it's also mellow and unforced. There's worn brown leather and hints of gentle oxidation (again, like in the wines of Rayas) but the palate remains pure and red-fruited. So much going on here. A wine that will change and morph in the glass over the course of a few hours. - Ches Cook, FWC.
?In many ways, the regular bottling from Henri Bonneau is perhaps my favorite ? It is a great example of Ch?teauneuf du Pape in my book, and a wine that is of great worth to search out and secure whenever it pops up, as it drinks decidedly sooner than the top two Bonneau bottlings (usually coming into full bloom about eight years out from the vintage), but ages very gracefully.?
