Envinate 'Lousas Parcela Seoane' Mencia 2021
Subregion: Amandi. Soils: Slate. Altitude: 300-400m Exposition: South-West
Wine making: 90% whole bunch, 12 months in used 228l oak.
Like the previous two wines, Envinate’s two single-site Mencias will always be compared to one another. Parcela Seone gets a bit more sun and is, as a result, more open-knit, red fruited and accessible. Perhaps it’s the wine with the most immediate appeal compared to the inward concentration and firmness of Camino Novo. This certainly has a real pinosity about it with musk stick, red florals and red berry fruit and gentle, fine tannin. In some ways it drinks in a similar way to high-toned, modern Grenache. – Ches Cook, FWC.
The 2021 Lousas Parcela Seoane comes from a field blend of 90% Mencía and 10% other varieties on gneiss and quartz soils, with old vines, all fermented together with full clusters that were foot trodden, and then the wine matured in neutral 228-, 400- and 500-liter oak barrels. It has 13% alcohol and good freshness and acidity. It is a bit austere and closed, somehow with less energy than how the 2022 was showing today. 2,200 bottles were filled in November 2022. Drink 2024-2032. 96 Points. Luis Guttierez, The WIne Advocate.
