Domaine de Trevallon IGP Alpilles Rouge 2021

The Cha?ne des Alpilles  is a small range of low mountains in Provence, southern France, located about 20 km south of Avignon.

The range is an extension of the much larger Luberon range. Although it is not high - some 498 m (1,634 ft) at its highest point - the Alpilles range stands out impressively, as it rises abruptly from the Rh?ne valley and from the very flat alluvial plain of Crau. The range is about 25 km long by about 8 to 10 km wide, running in an east-west direction between the Rh?ne and Durance rivers. The landscape of the Alpilles is one of arid limestone peaks separated by dry valleys.

Notes: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon & 50% Syrah. Tr?vallon is known for its long aging process, more than 2 years for its reds. Racking is kept to a strict minimum, the lees found at the bottom of the barrels continue to nourish the wine during the ageing process. No de-stemming, no added yeast or sulphur. Aged 24 months in foudres and barrels. Fining with fresh egg white. No filtration before bottling. For several years, rainfall has been non-existent in the summer. However, in 2021 they had 20 mm in July and 25 mm in August, small but beneficial rains for the vineyard. One of the coolest summers in recent years: Average temperature of 24?C in July and August compared to 27?C in 2022.?From a marginally cooler, damper year, the Syrah and Cabernet are already beginning to meld together. Tightly youthful and closed, this needs either advance decanting or be allowed to age for a few years. Fresh, vibrant notes of blue flowers and dark berry fruit on the nose opens out to concentrated, ripe blackberries, the vibrant kick of sloes and powerful, bitter black chocolate tannins, finishing with aromatic notes of black pepper and sweet allspice..
