Beulah Violetta 'Stesso Stesso' 2023
Beulah Violetta 'Stesso Stesso' is the first release from Sydney-siders James Hird and wife Annie Conley. Now spending six months of the year in Umbria in central Italy, James and Annie are farming their piece of dirt organically, where they grow Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Merlot and more (olives, wheat etc etc).
This wine charmed us recently for its medium bodied frame, gentle mouthfeel and subtle delivery of fruit and Mediterranean herbal tones. Better still, it’s very affordable and a glimpse of what’s to come from this new estate.
A field blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Sagrantino.
Hand harvested over two days at the beginning of September. Co-fermented with indigenous yeasts. The idea of the wine is to make a super approachable light red with little tannin. We wanted to show the freshness of the site, the vineyard for this cuvée is 22 years old and faces east and to north east. The 2023 growing season through-out much of Italy was a cool wet one, thankfully the altitude and breezes prevented a lot of the disease pressure that happened across the country. The wine is ideal around 14 degrees. Made without any additions very small amount of sulphur added at bottling. Producer notes.
