Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Griottes-Chambertin 2019 Magnum
One of our smallest allocations… This is not a new vineyard for Ben, although it is our first allocation! At 2.73 hectares, Griottes is the smallest of the Gevrey Grand Crus, and Leroux’s vines sit in the upper section, to the south. The 2019 was fermented with one-third whole bunches and aged in two barrels, one of which was new.
“There are two barrels of the 2019 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru, one new. The very focused bouquet of morello cherry, cassis and violet aromas is very Griotte. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very good weight, hints of brown spice and even a touch of soy toward the harmonious finish. Great length and energy. A superb Griotte-Chambertin.” 94-96 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
“Fine deep mid red, detailed, light red fruits, high quality, but not demonstrative, light body too, but with good length. A fine and attractive Griottes.” 92-95 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
