Antoine Sanzay Saumur-Champigny 'Les Poyeux' 2020
With the encouragement of local mentors, including Romain Guiberteau and Nady Foucault (Clos Rougeard), Antoine slowly began keeping fruit back from the local coop for his own production from 2002. By 2014 he retained the entire production to satisfy the growing demand for his wines. Antoine worked at Clos Rougeard during his early years of wine training.
The Les Poyeux site is made famous by the phenomenal Clos Rougeard wines, Antoine owns a huge 4ha of the vineyard.
'NAME TO KNOW: His Les Poyeux could show solidarity with Clos Rougeard (in fact, he's often aged it in their used barrels, usually for two years), but the style is totally different; dark, flinty, and sumptuous, with plush black fruit, black mustard, and a cool clay-like minerality.'
