PYCM & Caroline Morey
These are wines I have worshiped for over a decade so an appointment at this address in November 2024 was very special. You can’t meet a more humble person than Pierre-Yves: his finger is well-and truly on the pulse when it comes to the various terroirs of Burgundy. His 2023s are excellent and a complete no-brainer. Mention must also go to the wines of Pierre-Yves’ wife Caroline who is every bit as involved in production here. In fact, Caroline makes all the reds across the PYCM and Caroline Morey label, while Pierre-Yves handles the whites! While none of the wines here are cheap, the quality is extremely high with the 2023s arguably eclipsing the fabulous 2022s. – Ches Cook, Five Way Cellars.
PYCM Bourgogne Blanc 2023
From vines located in Meursault (40%), Puligny (15%), Chassagne (15%) and also Saint Aubin (30%).
‘Made with a predominance of fruit from below Chassagne. Pale colour, clean and clear, fresh and chiselled, a lemony aspect, already a bit reductive. Good length, very much PYCM style. Drink from 2026-2028. Tasted Oct 2024.’ (87-88) Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, October 2024.
PYCM Saint Aubin 1er Cru 'Chateniere' 2023
From a sheltered south facing 0.86 ha vineyard planted in 1970 and 1995 this is often the richest of the St Aubin wines of this domaine. Always extremely limited.
The 2023 Saint-Aubin La Chatenière 1er Cru has more reduction on the nose compared to Colin's other Premier Crus. The palate is fresh on the entry, quite intense with a little flintiness in the background. Once the 2023 is in bottle, its razor-sharp finish is going to be a killer. This might need a bit more time in bottle but it's a superb articulation of this vineyard.
(92-94) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, November 2024.
PYCM Saint Aubin 1er Cru 'Hommage a Marguerite' 2023
Three 1er Crus combined: Combes (0.33 ha), Perrières (0.44 ha) and Les Creots (0.52ha) – made first time in 2016 due to the frost, ‘the name is from my maternal grandmother who died about the same time as the frost in 2016.
The 2023 Saint-Aubin Hommage à Marguerite 1er Cru, a blend of Combe, Perrières and Craillot, is delightful, fresh and saline with subtle notes of sea spray and white peaches. The palate is well balanced with a tangy opening, and lively peach nuances develop toward the finish. This is harmonious and quite irresistible already. Recommended. (91-93) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, November 2024.
PYCM Saint Aubin 1er Cru ‘Les Champlots’ 2023
From a south-west facing 0.65 ha vineyard planted in 1994 located just above La Chateniere. This site catches a little more wind.
The 2023 Saint-Aubin Les Champlots 1er Cru is a parcel that suffered minor hail damage in July. It has a lively bouquet, perhaps more so than the previous vintage, with crushed limestone, red apples and just a hint of chamomile. The palate is well defined with a slightly honeyed, sun-kissed opening. Melon and grapefruit lead toward a passionfruit-tinged finish. There is just a soupçon of exoticism here. (89-91) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, November 2024.
Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet 'Chambrees' 2023
From 3 parcels of vines 1960’s and early 1990’s old located in Le Chene, Les Masures and La Bergerie. Pure crystalline fruit showing great style and restraint with good generosity for AC level. Average is at least 40 years-old. New vines en-fermage in this vintage. Assembled all the lieu-dits this year, though all vinified separately.
The usual blend of Bergerie, Masures, Chênes though the last is now pulled out (161/49 rootstock). Pale lemon and lime. Quite a refined bouquet, majoring on elegance rather than weight. Delicate, nuanced, good acidity, a pure and perfumed Chassagne for the medium term. Not too reductive at this stage. Drink from 2027-2032. (89-91) Jasper Morris M.W., Inside Burgundy, October 2024
Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumees 2023
From vines planted in the 1950’s located quite high on the slope at the northern end near Puligny. Lots of limestone in this vineyard and it shows with super fine aromatics and palate staining intensity of orchard fruits backed by a great line of acidity. Very long, very impressive. Near Philippe Colin’s vines, near the quarry. Older vines with millerandes.
Pale colour, white fruit in a restrained fashion on the nose. Builds in fruit and charm on the nose, with a cashmere texture which is pleasing and well-integrated acidity. As ever, in the delicately refined style of Caroline Morey. Drink from 2028-2034. (91-93) Jasper Morris M.W., Inside Burgundy, October 2024
PYCM Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru 'La Maltroie' 2023
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroie 1er Cru has a composed and beautifully defined bouquet with orange blossom, crushed stone and light citrus scents, gradually gaining intensity in the glass. The palate has wonderful texture, slightly honeyed with immense depth and a counterbalancing silver thread of acidity. The finish has real power and drive, but it never forgets to deliver precision and finesse. Bon vin. (94-96) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, November 2024.
PYCM Chassagne Montrachet VV 2023
From 4 very old vineyards 0.75 ha total all located on the northern side of Chassagne close to the Puligny border - deeper soils here too.
A blend of three vineyards on the Puligny side of the appellation, the 2023 Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes has a slightly reductive bouquet that makes it difficult to read at the moment. The palate is well balanced with a tangy orange rind-tinged opening and lovely weight in the mouth, as lilting clementine and apricot notes mix with citrus peel toward the harmonious finish. This will be delicious. (90-92) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Media, November 2024.
PYCM Meursault 2023
PYCM Monthelie Blanc 2023
Made from relatively new domaine plots, in Les Plantes and Les Crays.
