Jasper Hill - An Australian Icon
Jasper Hill having been leading the charge for wines from the Heathcote region for decades under the stewardship of Ron and Elva Laugton since 1978. Icon is a term that can be loosley thrown around at times but the wines of Jasper Hill sit rightly in this bracket and the reds in particular are much collected by wine enthuisiasts from all over the world. Nowadays the batton has been passed to Ron's daughter Emily and her husband Nick who are in charge of running Jasper Hill.
Jasper Hill Riesling 2024
The Jasper Hill Riesling tends to be outliner of Australian Riesling in a very positive way and the 2024 is no exception. It's full of juicy lemon with notes of citrus oil and ginger alongside. There's quite a bit going on here with s lemon pith texture and a real breadth and intensity of fruit weight on the palate. The acidity keeps the fruit in line and there's great length on the finish, it wouldn't be out of place in a line up of dry German rieslings with its intensity and energy. - Cameron Roebuck, FWC.
Brilliant yellow colour with the usual aromatic citrus notes. Occasional lees stirring during fermentation gives a weighted riesling with a long finish. Think lemon in all its form, juice, zest and pith. Underlining limes and slight peachy fruit characters, finishing with a hint of viscosity. A wine to drink now but the natural zingy acidity gives this wine long lasting potential. Screw-cap sealed, 13.5% alcohol. Winery's notes.

Jasper Hill Emily's Paddock Shiraz 2023
Black cherries and black plums are up front with aromas of black tea, earth, sage and pencil shavings also. There's a density and juiciness to the core of black fruit and with the fruit not being in any way sweet there's an overall savouriness to the wine that's very appealing. The Laughton's have managed the balance of core black fruit and acidity extremely well, the plush and broad tannins provide a great structural framework. Like the Georgia's Paddock there's no discernible heat for a wine of 15% alcohol which shows how well all the elements sit together. Recommended, Cameron Roebuck, FWC.
Full bodied, yet very approachable, Emily’s keeps on giving. Brilliant magenta in colour, this wine will stain. Intense dark fruits of cherry, raspberry and plum, followed through with a hint of mint and dark chocolate. Structured chalky tannins and balanced natural acidity allows this wine to be cellared. High grade cork sealed, 15.0% alcohol. Winery's notes.
