Tenuta Delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso 2024
Tenuta delle Terre Nere is the brainchild Marco de Grazia based in Randazzo (northern slopes of Mount Etna). For well over twenty years now, Marco has been responsible for dissecting and defining the 'Contrada' (cru) system of Mount Etna, similar (albeit smaller) to the cru system of Piemonte in Italy’s north. Not only has this helped us allocate and understand the differences in plots across Etna’s varied geography, but importantly, it has also assisted the commercial successes of wines from this part of Sicily ands has helped them to be rightfully elevated to the position they are today when discussed in conversations about the world’s best and most distinctive wines. Currently Marco works with 10 contrada, mostly on the northern side of Mt Etna, but also to the south and east sides of the volcano, to. What also stands Terre Nere apart from the pack is Marco’s management of the Nerello Mascalese tannins: his Etna Rosso shows incredible elegance and finesse, still retaining fine structure, while holding all the prettiness and silkiness more commonly associated with high-end Pinot Noir. – Ches Cook (Five Way Cellars) with notes from Peter John (Primavera Selections – Australian importer).
