Sordo Barolo Monprivato 2021
From a small section of the famed cru. This plot of Sordo’s leased through the Church that owns a portion. Succulent red of high definition, tense tannin profile, bright and brisk acidity, tinged with amaro and dried orange, graphite, dark cherry and rose hip tea, a garam masala spice mix earthy-sweet lift. Incredibly intense but sheathed in a ripple of firm, super high quality and refreshing tannin. Impossibly long and mouth-watering finish. A wine for the ages, and ages. Poise, purity, detail of fruit, spice, earth, tannin. Stellar. 97 points. - Mike Bennie, Wine Front.
Monprivato (Castiglione Falletto) – to some, the greatest vineyard of Barolo and one of the world’s great vineyards! Has the Castiglione complexities, of flowers, cranberry, tobacco leaf, earth, spices (and etc) – all in a forceful package, quite the contrast to the nervy and shy Villero. Once again, has the discrete yet complete tannin and acid combo of a great Vosne-Romanee or St Julien. For the long-haul, but younger wines will perform for you…eventually…with a breathe.
Vineyard: 240-320 m
Terrain: marine muds, limestone and marine deposits
Facing: South-West
Vine Age: 30 + years * worth noting that Barolo growers tend to prize location more than vine age, often replanting vines from their mid-30s.
