Elio Sandri Langhe Nebbiolo 2023
Elio Sandri is one of Barolo's most quietly singular traditionalists, working from
Cascina Disa, his family's small estate in the Perno cru of Monforte d'Alba. Acquired
by his father Giovanni in 1965, the estate now comprises 7.5 hectares, including Nebbioloplanted as early as 1937. Elio farms organically on Perno's cooler eastern slopes, where bluemarl and sandy soils bring freshness and perfume.
In the cellar, spontaneous fermentations in cement are followed by long ageing in old Slavonian botti, guided by each vintage rather than a fixed formula. The wines are neither fined nor filtered, with minimal sulphur. Time is Elio's most important tool, producing traditional, age-worthy Barolo of structure, savoury depth and remarkable transparency, alongside equally distinctive Dolcetto and Langhe Nebbiolo.
The 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo is a super-potent wine that will rival (or surpass) wines from more prestigious appellations... a serious Langhe Nebbiolo that delivers the goods. ANTONIO GALLONI | DRINKING WINDOW: 2023-2030
