Hewitson - Barossa Valley
Hewitson’s Estate lies along the banks of the Para River, in the heart of the Barossa Valley on the historic Seppeltsfield Road.
Historically, this strip has produced some of Barossa’s (and Australia’s) finest red wines.
We'll have Dean Hewitson or the 'mad hatter' as he's commonly known in the store to taste through a selection of Hewitson wines on Thursday March 27 from 4:30pm-7pm
including the Old Garden Mouvedre which is sourced from the oldest Mouvedre vineyard in the world dating back to 1853!
Hewitson 'Miss Harry' 2023
One of the very best GSM wines on the market and certainly the best value. Beautiful everyday drinking and cellars surprisingly well. Ian Cook - FWC
35/33/32% grenache/shiraz/mourvedre; 48% whole bunch, 12 months in old French barriques. Red cherry, red plum and a touch of cranberry here with hints of spice, dried herbs, pressed purple flowers, almond blossom, dried citrus rind and earth. Medium-bodied, spacious and energetic; fine sandy tannins lend support, leaning savoury on the medium-length finish. There is a lot to like here and it's very easy to drink. Drink 2024-2032, 93 Points, Dave Brookes, Halliday's Wine Companion.

Hewitson Ned & Henry's Shiraz 2022
This is brimful of sweet fruit flavour. Whether or not you find it too sweet will depend on personal preference, but it’s certainly gushy with its eagerness to please. Ripe plum, blackberry, graphite and clove. It oozes its way through the mouth. In fact it’s almost jellybean-esque. It’s simple but it’s very effective. Drink 2020-2026, 91 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

Hewitson Madame M 2023 (white blend)
67/33% muscat blanc à petits grains/sauvignon blanc. Lightly coloured with heady aromas of passionfruit, melon, grapefruit and apple fruit tones intermingling with hints of bath salts, crushed stone, jasmine, citrus zest and lemongrass. Swift of cadence with plenty of crunch and inherent drinkability. Great zesty drinking. 90 points, David Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
A wine inspired by those beautiful light and aromatic whites I so enjoyed on recent travels to the Mediterranean coasts of Spain and southern Italy, typically blends of the local varieties including Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains and Sauvignon Blanc. Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains has been growing in Barossa Valley for 170 years and our Old Fence Line block is about that old. With ever-changing consumer trends in
a crowded market place it seems so much sense to stick to our strengths and make this classic Mediterranean style at 11.0% alcohol in a light weight bottle. It ticks all
the boxes – Dean Hewitson.

Hewitson Belle Ville Rose 2022
As you would expect from Dean Hewitson, this rosé is made from his beloved mourvèdre and it paints a pretty picture. Salmon pink in the glass with aromas and flavours of redcurrant, raspberry, red cherry and grapefruit cut with gentle soft spice, white and red flowers, almond paste and stone. Some nice fruit sweetness is tempered by stony acidity finishing long, red-fruited and moreish. 92 points, David Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.

Hewitson Ungrafted Grenache 2022
A wonderfully fragrant wine from ungrafted grenache that shows a gentle ruby in the glass, almost pinot-esque! It's an exercise in space and savoury/textural precision, a delicious one at that; 85% whole bunch in here, 110-year-old vines. It's ridiculously good to drink. There is a luminescence to the pure red fruits, the layered spice and amaro seeming pipette-precise in their harmony, with a ferrous edge to the powdery tannins; citrus blossom, blood orange, dried citrus rind and charcuterie notes fanning out on the extended finish. Beautiful stuff. 96 points, drink 2023-2035, David Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.

Hewitson Dorrien Bank Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Classic left bank cabernet sauvignon. Left bank of the Para River that is, in the famed subregion of Dorrien. Deep magenta/crimson with fruit aromas of plush blackberry, black cherry and blackcurrant. Nary a herbaceous note to be found. It's all layered spice, licorice, créme de cassis, kirsch, tobacco pouch and softly spoken cedar tones. Weighty and wonderfully ripe and silken, tannins superfine and melting back into the black fruits and finishing long, fruit pure with a slightly savoury lean. 95 points, drink 2023-2040, David Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
