JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreich Spatlese 2021
“The 2021er Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese has a beautifully complex and pure nose of lime tree, verbena, orange blossom, anise, smoke, cassis, jasmine, and white peach. The wine coats the palate with very pure and fresh fruits and leaves a vibrating and hugely long finish. This splendidly pure Spätlese has great energy! 2031-2051” 95 points, Jean Fisch and David Rayer, Mosel Fine Wines
The 2021 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese is very clear, bright and elegant on the saline and beautifully balanced nose that delivers bright and quite intense fruit aromas intermingled with weathered slate and also citrus aromas. On the palate, this is a round and intense, mouth-filling and lush, almost creamy-textured Himmelreich with a long, complex and saline finish. It needs some time, though. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023. Drink 2025-2047. 93 Points. Stephen Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate.
Graacher is a steep and stoney site with the deepest topsoil. This vineyard has excelled in 2021. Superb fruit intensity with pink grapefruit, honeysuckle, savoury herbs and chalky, mineral acidity. Really nervy, savoury and mouth watering. The slate minerality is like licking river pebbles. Outstanding! Seems amazingly dry. Long, viscous yet textured and layered. Possibly the wine of the day. Prawn toast was a great match. Ian Cook, FWC.
