Roche Paradis Cote-Rotie Planeze 2023

First vintage of this new cuvée made from 40% Petite Serine (an old strain of Syrah) and 60% Syrah in the lieu-dit of Planèze (Côte Brune) in the village of Saint-Cyr-sur-le-Rhone in the far north of the appellation. Here the terroir is micaschist and the aspect east-southeast. Fermented with 30 % whole bunches, then matured for 18 months in 1, 2 and 3-year-old barriques, followed by a further 6 months in tank on fine lees. The cooler northern site, together with the Petite Serine component delivers a very fresh and aromatic style of Côte Rôtie, that shows lovely complexity and excellent richness, along with great length, fine silky tannins and succulent acidity.
