Paul Pillot Saint Aubin 1er Cru 'Les Pintangerets' 2022
As noted above, Pitangerets has slightly poorer and stonier soils than Charmois and tends to produce firmer, more savoury wines (although in 2022, this difference is less pronounced). Pillot farms half a hectare of vines that are reaching their 60th harvest. Some growers prefer to label this wine under the easier-to-pronounce climat, Les Combes. Again, this is a powerful, dense, layered wine that starts rich but tightens up as it travels across the palate, with a lovely, sappy freshness and drive to match its generosity.
?A little yellow in the colour, riper fruit on the nose, with some reduction, pleasingly juicy on the palate with a saline finish and very good length.? 89-90 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
?The 2022 Saint-Aubin Pitangerets comes from chalky soils in a cool microclimate. This has a pleasant bouquet with apple blossom and orange pith; there?s just a little reduction to contend with. The palate is well-balanced with tangerine, nectarine and a twist of lemon peel. Very focused with an energetic, joyful finish. Excellent.? 90-92 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.
