Lucien Muzard Meursault "Meix Chavaux' 2023
This parcel is situated half way up a hillside, on limestone-clay soil with a predominantly limestone base. It is south-east facing. The parcel was planted with 10 000 vines per hectare, in 1988 and 2001, with older vines dating back to 1935. It covers a surface of 0.75 hectares. Pruned in the single Guyot style. The ground is worked with different ploughs. The vines are de-budded, de-leafed on risingsun side, manually, in order to get the bunches of grapes used to the sun and to aerate the foliage. Harvesting is done by hand. The grapes are pressed, the must is lightly clarified before being placed into barrels. Alcohol fermentation is achieved with indigenous yeast. Malolactic fermentation is entirely carried out during the winter months, in our underground cellars. We use 350 litre barrels.
‘Pale lemon colour, delightful on the nose, some floral qualities, white fruit behind. There is plenty of fruit on the palate, not heavy but fine and even quite nuanced. Made with a lightness of touch and though the oak is present it is well integrated. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted Oct 2024.’ (90-92 points) Jasper Morris M.W., January 2025.
