Lucien Le Moine Saint Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay Blanc 2022
“Mounir and Rotem Saouma established their two-person micro-négoce in 1999 that focuses almost exclusively on the very best 1ers and grand crus in both red and white. With respect to 2022, Mounir told me that “it is a kind of transition vintage that possesses elements of both old and new Burgundy. This is to say that while the wines are too ripe to call them classic in the usual sense of the term, meaning vintages like we saw in the 1970s and 1980s, they’re still fresher and more transparent than many of the so-called ‘southern’ vintages that are so ripe like those of say 2003, 2009, 2015,2018 and 2020. It is of course, and will be going forward, the open question as to whether the style of the 2022s will be the new norm or whether we’ll revert to the riper style. Either way, I love what 2022 gave us as they really are wonderful wines and remarkably enough, in both colors.” I have to agree with Saouma that he has made some first-rate 2022s and many of them are indeed recommended” Allen Meadows, Burghound
