Eleni & Edouard Vocoret Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 2023
“From 3 plots totalling 0.53 hectares, all planted in 1965 so now over 60 years old. Edouard tells me it’s the steepest plot and reminds me it’s the only Grand Cru where it’s an East/South East exposition. The Cru flows away from Le Clos in a differing exposition than all the other GC’s. Very fine grey/blue marl, delicate Grand Cru. Wild Fermented in steel then elevage in barrel for 12 months of 6 to 30 year old barriques.
“An elegant nose freely reveals aromas of white flowers, mineral reduction, lemon zest, quinine and oyster shell wisps. There is fine precision and verve to the tension-filled medium weight flavors that exude both minerality and salinity on the bitter lemon-suffused and beautifully long finale that is youthfully austere and moderately dry. This is a relatively powerful Blanchots that should also improve for up to a decade” – 91-94 pts – Burghound.
“The 2023 Chablis Blanchot Grand Cru has a strict and correct bouquet, petrichor and Granny Smith scents, just a touch of orange zest and nectarine. The palate is medium-bodied with a dense core of slightly honeyed fruit. The most powerful of Vocoret’s cuvées with a dash of lemongrass and ginger on the finish. One for the cellar” – 92-94 pts – Neal Martin.
