Deville 'Carte Noir' Champagne NV
We've had this twice now (both times in October 2025) - the second occasion was us requesting a second sample to confirm what we had first thought: this is a fantastic new discover in 'value' Champagne. What I love about this is that it has not been dumbed-down with a high dosage as is so often the case with affordable Champagne. Rather, Deville seems to have shown confidence in the quality and ripeness of their fruit, letting it speak for itself. The result? A wine rich in red fruit flavour but with a long and drawn-out finish that is all crumbly white chalk in flavour and texture. At this price it's a total winner. 75% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier. Entirely from the grand cru village of Verzy. - Ches Cook, Five Way Cellars.
