Benjamin Leroux Savigny les Beaune 2024
Fresh crunchy red fruit. Not as sweet fruited as normal vintages. Savoury brown spices and quite earthy with more of a dry tannin grip and dry finish. As with the Bourgogne needs a couple of years, I love it, as some vintages I find too sweet fruited like the style of Simon Bize. Ian Cook, FWC
The backbone of this cuvée is the outstanding Aux Fourneaux lieu-dit in the north of the village, where Leroux works with a lot of Pinot Fin — a high-quality, low-yielding Pinot Noir cultivar that gives low yields and real concentration. In recent vintages, the blend has also included Saucours, a site on the western extension of the slope near Les Hauts Jarrons, which replaced the now-sold Connardises parcel starting with the 2023 vintage. This is always such a winner for the money in the range, and 2024 is no exception. Loads of bright fruit but also some real depth, structure and age-worthiness.
“Fresh vigorous purple. The fruit has the more savoury edge of Savigny-lès-Beaune, good grip on the palate, absolutely clean fruit, perhaps not the generous feel through the middle, but some finesse. A drier finish. Drink from 2028-2031.” 87-89 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2024 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village has a light, slightly tertiary bouquet with brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins. Elegant and nicely balanced, this is not a powerful Savigny but it has a lilting finish that consumers will find very appealing.” 88-90 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
