Benjamin Leroux Corton Blanc 'Les Grandes Lolieres' Grand Cru 2022
Being introduced to this wine chez Leroux last year was a brilliant surprise. Note that this Grand Cru is not Corton-Charlemagne but rather Corton Blanc, another appellation on the Corton Hill for certain plots outside Corton-Charlemagne. Corton Blanc is indeed a rare bird! In 2018, only 4.18 hectares were declared. Suffice to say many experienced Burgundy lovers have never tasted one. Leroux previously sourced Pinot from Les Grandes Lolieres, but this is his first white. The vineyard sits close to the village of Ladoix-Serrigny and faces due east. This is an absolutely riveting white Burgundy with great energy, depth of fruit, punchy freshness and a long, earthy close. A portion of the wine was made in Wineglobe for precision. The result is strikingly impressive.
?One barrel made, the grapes coming from an organic source. This is a sunny side up Corton, weighing in at 14.3%. A ripe nose with honeysuckle, excellent fruit density, some grip behind. All the weight, still with a mineral note through the middle, balanced despite the extra ripeness.? 92-95 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
