Benjamin Leroux Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru 2020 Magnum
Diam. A Leroux Chevalier? Ssshhh. This wine comes from a tiny source of 0.16-hectares and so Leroux says he can only make it in generous years, which at the moment is averaging once every two to three years. The vines abut Le Montrachet, on one of Chevalier’s four terraces. “It’s a great place,” says Leroux, “It’s tremendous when you have the opportunity to work with this sensational terroir.” We can only imagine! From cask, it was a powerhouse white with incredible intensity and length.
“One barrel made, not yet racked, consequently showing the oak a little and needs a sulphur refreshment. A little more monotone than the Bâtard with pure classy white fruit, very good length. Actually this is extremely stylish. Really very long indeed. The Chevalier-Montrachet will only be available in magnum. 14% alcohol.” 93-97 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
