Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru ‘Les Baudines’ 2023
Yet another Leroux classic, the 3.6-hectare Les Baudines vineyard sits high up on the slope, near the tree line on the southwestern border of Chassagne. It’s essentially a continuation of Les Embazées but sits higher on the hillside, on poorer soil, with a higher limestone content. It’s a very cool site with mostly white, rocky clay soils—a terroir perfectly aligned with Leroux’s desire to produce fine-boned, chiselled Chassagne. Leroux’s vines were planted in the 1980s. Importer’s notes.
“The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Baudines 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet with touches of passion fruit and lemon rind, boasting plenty of energy and fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with a rich core of tropical fruit that's completely counterbalanced by acidity. There is great weight and concentration on the finish. Excellent.” 92-94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous.
