Domaine Faiveley - A Vintage to Savour
Jérôme Flous and his team have produced another compelling range of 2022s, and it's hardly surprising, given the high level of vineyard management chez Faiveley or the skill and precision brought to bear in the winery and the cellar. As is often the case up and down the Côte d'Or, the style is more delicate and sensual than was the case in 2020, and the wines seem set to offer broad drinking windows.

Joseph Faiveley Bourgogne Rouge 2022
This is quite a serious wine for the humble appellation. Plenty of red cherry fruit. A surprising amount of structure on the medium-bodied palate. Bright, almost crisp finish. Matured for six months in oak casks previously used for the 1er and grand cru wines. Drink now. 90 Pts, James Suckling

Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin VV 2022
"Almost 10 hectares worth in this wine – 23 different lieu-dits – a large part in Justice but the rest is mainly Gevrey from the slopes including Brochon. What a perfume – I’d drink this tonight if the aroma is anything to go by. Weight – and such width in the depth of this flavour – really fluid again – I love it. That’s a great wine in 22 – again! Wait 5 years but the 30% new oak seems not too excessive – just a faint dryness on the tip of your tongue in the finish…" Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report

Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin VV 2022 Magnum
Pure fruited with classic Gevrey structure, yet quite fine for the appellation. Mostly destemmed, yet shows a subtle amount of rustic dry leaf and savoury tannin. Outstanding Village wine. All domaine fruit. Highly recommended. Ian Cook, FWC

Faiveley Nuits St Georges 1er Cru 'Les Damodes' 2022
Really fine perfume of cherry and roses – quite floral. An excellent intensity and persistence more creamy richness and texture in the middle than you expect from Nuits. Damodes always has a element of this. Maybe the 50% new oak speaking. It’s not over done yet needs a few years to integrate. Love this wine.
Ian Cook, FWC
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes is ample and perfumed, wafting from the glass with aromas of plums, orange zest, potpourri and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a pure and vibrant core of fruit, melting tannins and a saline finish, it's immensely charming.
92-93 Pts, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
More evident wood frames ripe, cool and airy aromas that are more from the dark side of the fruit spectrum. The sleek, delicious and attractively vibrant flavors flash good minerality and tension, both of which can be found on the balanced, complex and solidly persistent finish. This is lovely and very Damodes.
91-93 Pts, Allen Meadows, Burghound
The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. The proportion of de-stemmed grapes and whole clusters varies depending on the vintage. The wines are punched down daily in order to extract colour, tannins and aromas from the skin of the grapes. After a 19 day vatting period, the alcoholic fermentation is complete. The free-run wine is run off using a gravity system whilst the marc is pressed slowly and gently in order to extract an exceptionally pure press wine. The wines are aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (40-50% new oak and 50-60% one-wine barrels) which have been selected for their fine grain and moderate toast. The wines are left to age in our cellars at consistent, natural hygrometry and temperature.
Winery Note

Faiveley Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru 'Les Cazetiers' 2022
Fascinating deep, ripe nose with a wealth of subtle earth and yuzu notes. Refined and concentrated on the very silky, medium- to full-bodied palate. The fine tannins build beautifully in the expansive finish. From four hectares in this just over eight-hectare site. From organically grown grapes. Matured in 50% new oak and 50% once-used oak. Drink or hold. 96 pts, James Suckling

Faiveley Nuits St Georges 1er Cru 'Les St Georges' 2022
Captivating nose of spiced red fruits and a touch of red currant. The refined intensity is very special and rarely seen in Nuits St Georges – apart from Les Saint-George – the best appellation in Nuits. Layers of red fruit, brown spices and forest floor. “Easily Grand Cru standard”.
Cellar 10-20 years. Ian Cook, FWC
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges unwinds in the glass with notes of dark berries, orange zest, exotic spices and peonies, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and richly layered palate, its generous core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Seamless and complete, it's almost the stylistic opposite of the ethereal Damodes.
