FX Pichler Gruner Veltliner 'Klostersatz' 2022
The Ried Klostersatz is, as the name suggests, one of the oldest vineyards in the Wachau to be cultivated by the monks of Bavarian and Salzburg monasteries. It is a vineyard with a remarkably deep soil composition situated in the Loibner basin, within the majestic curve of the Danube river between Dürnstein and Oberloiben.
The 2022 Loibner Ried Klostersatz Grüner Veltliner is very clear and fragrant on the open-hearted nose that is reminiscent of ripe pears and yellow apples yet also some saline and flinty nuances from the gravelly Klostersatz terroir. The wine is light and buoyant on the palate, lush, stimulatingly saline and tart and even bitter on the finish that makes the 2022 Klostersatz a picture-book Veltliner for everyday and lighter dishes. The wine has charming fruit intensity yet not richness or fat. Excellent! Drink 2024-2036. 90 Points. Stephen Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate.
