Yarra Yering Pinot Noir 2023

This release of Yarra Yering Pinot Noir is a picture of composure. It’s more about bass than treble; the flavours sit backward on the palate, as if in no hurry. There are undergrowth and dried herb characters here, threaded intricately through macerated red and black cherry, with cedar notes also nestled safely within. There’s a juicy purity to the finish, and a purple flower note, and a certain smoky meatiness too. It’s old school Yarra Valley pinot noir, in a way, or a fresh/modern take on old school, in that it’s not upfront and eager; it wants to be consumed with some years under its belt. 94 pts, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
