Tyrrell's HVD Semillon 2018
$36
For the first time in decades, Andrew Spinaze decided to use a different yeast, the one they used in the 80s (and in the legendary 1995 HVD, as an aside), on this wine. It certainly makes itself known, however, these things settle down with time in bottle.
Lemon lollies, blossoms, green pear and lime. There's plenty of flavour here, soft and pretty, gentle acidity, ripe lemon and flowers again, and some bitter lemon in the finish. A bit waxy, and loose on the way out, but subtle chalkiness takes up some of the slack. Interested to see which way this one will jump. Drink 2020-2030. 91 Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
