Paralian Grenache 2024
This is from the Marmont Vineyard, Blewitt Springs, planted 1960, when ‘heroine’ would have been considered the correct term. Then again, watch a James Bond film from the 60s, and as much as I love them, there’s some pretty rampant sexism that comes across as very *ick* these days. Chateau Marmont would be a good name for it, also, warming to that 60s theme. Anyway, let it roll, baby roll. Don’t read too much into these introductions, it’s just what pops into my head. I’m an unusual man, though you may have worked that out by now!
Raspberry, almond and peanut packed milk chocolate, spice and perfume, a subtle nori character too with Japanese ginger tucked in. It’s medium-bodied, red cherry and raspberry, again the almond meal richness, a bright cranberry freshness to acidity, quite some fine sandstone grip to tannin gives it substance and texture, spiced blood orange rolls on a crisp finish of excellent length. A super Grenache, though it’s quite firm and structured, so give it another year or two, I’d say. 95 pts, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
