Mac Forbes Woori Yallock ‘Ferguson’ Chardonnay 2022
Mac recently (July 2025) hosted a small trade event, opening a raft of wine he has produced over the past two decades, going back to his 2006 Woori Yallock Chardonnay (which looked great, by the way). As part of the tasting, the new single site 2022s were released and shown for the first time. As is often the case for us in here at Five Ways, the Woori Yallock 'Ferguson Vineyard' wines shone most brightly.
This wine shows the tension and nervy acidity that is common to Mac's wines. This acid is pleasantly integrated and melds into the wine which shows flavours of lemon concentrate drizzled over white chalk and waxy green apple. As Mac would suggest, look at this not as a Chardonnay but as a glimpse of Woori Yallock and what this part of the Yarra Valley tastes like. It may sound wanky to some, but that's the whole purpose of Mac's project: trying to translate the flavours of site through wine. - Ches Cook, Five Way Cellars.
