Jasper Hill Nebbiolo 2022
There is more and more Nebbiolo on the domestic scene in Australia, and what is exciting is that there is a wide range of styles now being produced. Jasper's rendition is at the full bodied and of the spectrum, closest to the wines of Serralunga in Barolo, if a Piedmontese comparison is at all helpful. What is immediately noticeable is the aromatic profile of the wine: very floral and fragrant, showing dried flowers, lavender and camphor. The palate shows a raft of botanicals, cola and ash, with youthful, grippy tannin. It's a big wine, but full of soul. - Ches Cook, FWC.
Dark ruby red in the glass. Cherry, cola and crushed violet aromatics. Palate is full with a ripe black fruit note that is bound with motor oil savoury and eucalypt undertones. Good length and prodigious tannins framing it. A big wine that needs time. Drink 2026-2038. Stuart Knox, The Real Review, August 2023.
