A clonal selection from a single vine planted in 1853, the subsequent plantings necessarily relatively young, but firing on all cylinders. It is a graceful wine with a silky texture, red and purple fruits foremost; the tannins superfine, the finish lingering, the aftertaste fresh. Lovely now or in 20+ years. Drink to 2038. 97 Points. Named for the Mt Pleasant range, the wine bar in Adelaide, or something completely different. You choose. Big hit of bacon bone, chopped wood, old spice cupboard and ripe plums. Juicy in the palate, supple tannins, choc-berry ripple flavours, lots of woody spice laid in. Quilt-like upfront, grainy to finish. Traditional kind of style, a little pleasingly rustic, a bit ferrous too. Has appeal in its old school-good school way. 92 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
