Agricola ‘Seeliger’ Riesling 2025
Seeliger old vines, 11.7% alcohol. 1,003 bottles produced.
This comes off the ‘Seeliger’ old vine vineyard, the Steinert’s vineyard but gifted a new moniker, and marks a new addition to the roster of Callum Powell’s Agricola wines. Wild ferment, let the friskiness rise naturally.
It’s got incredible concentration and energy, immense persistence, a somewhat mute perfume conversely. The scents, lemon blossom, a bit of flint, lime zest, green apple juice, is a nice parlay to the palate, though the apple juice is the mainstay, a pink grapefruit sizzle slips in from mid palate and the finish is all beautiful bitter lemonade and brine. A little waxy in texture, pleasingly, but so fresh feeling. Faint as can be, but complexity giving, a dash of alpine herbs, finds its way through all this too. Very good wine. 95 pts, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
