Another Summer of Riesling
We say it every year but only because it's the truth. Riesling, in all it's forms - from textural beauties to piercing, saline wonders through to the variety of off-dry to sweet examples - are the perfect partner to Aussie summers.
With fantastic examples across Australia and Germany, options are abound for your palate. Furthermore, we strongly believe Riesling is the best value white you can find. Listed here are some of favourites but plenty more can be found on our website and in store.
Pooley Riesling 2020
The 2020 Pooley Riesling comes entirely from estate vineyards being a blend of fruit from younger vines from Butchers Hill (60%) and Cooinda Vale (40%). Whole bunch pressed and aged for 5 months on fine lees before bottling. An ideal vintage for Tasmania and for the Coal River region this wine carries 12% alc, pH 3.03 with residual sugar of 8 g/l balanced by very refreshing high acidity of 9.5 g/l TA.
’From the estate Butcher's Hill and Cooinda Vale Vineyards, whole-bunch pressed and fermented with a specialised (riesling) yeast. A lovely wine, that delicately paints the mouth with its kaffir-lime-juice flavours, cosseted with layered, harmonious acidity. Great length too.’ 96 points, James Halliday, January 2021.

Crawford River Museum Release Riesling 2014
Lifted bright notes of lime, grapefruit and white nectarine - wow - then lime toasted notes and a bare hint of marmalade. All that complex intensity on the palate with wet stone minerality and a spine of acid. Really tightly focussed. Would happily put this in a line-up with the best Germans - thinking G.G. here. Highly recommended for now and another 8 years. Ian Cook, FWC.
Combination of crushed and whole-bunch fruit, cool stainless-steel fermentation, 30% spent 6 weeks on fine lees, unfined. Utterly beguiling aromas exhibiting class all the way and, it must be stressed, very much with time on its side. Buttered toast, honey, spiced apple, lemon curd with such impressive concentration, but at the core is a bounty of natural, zesty acidity that lifts the entire tasting experience. Drink to 2029. 95 points. Jeni Port, Halliday's Wine Companion (Tasted Jan 2021)
