Below are a selection of wines from the 2022 vintage in Burgundy’s Côte d’Or highlighting producer's and releases full of measure and crafted charm. We invite you to explore these wines and experience the elegance of one of Burgundy’s most promising recent vintages. Writer and winemaker William Kelley has further detail on the vintage that was.
The 2022 vintage is proof that Burgundy hasn’t lost its capacity to surprise. How could the hottest, driest vintage since 1947 deliver wines so succulent, suave and charming? And why do they have so little in common with the Côte d’Or’s 2020, 2019 and 2018 vintages? The devil, as we shall see, is in the details, but what is clear is that 2022 is another very strong Burgundy vintage, offering excellence in both colors and in a wide variety of styles, foregrounding the fascinating nuances of site that render this region so interesting. That the 2022 crop marked a return to relatively “normal” yields after a succession of below-average harvests is a further boon, likely to alleviate some of the relentless upward pressure that the market for Burgundy’s wines has witnessed over the last five years. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate.

Duband Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc 2022 $100/$90
This charms from the start, with bright stone fruit flavours and lemon balm notes on the palate. It has pockets of plump primary fruit, making it primed for immediate drinking, while the acid line is bright and the pithy texture brings further interest. - Ches Cook, FWC.
Henri Germain Bourgogne Blanc Cote d'Or 2022 $130/$117
“Bright and fleshy, the 2022 Bourgogne Côte d'Or offers up aromas of pear, yellow orchard fruit, white flowers and almond paste, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate with excellent concentration and cut.” William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Sylvie Esmonin Bourgogne Rouge 2022 $135/$121.50
‘An exuberantly fresh nose features notes of plum, dark pinot fruit and plenty of earth character. The rich, delicious and voluminous middleweight flavors possess excellent depth and persistence for a wine at this level. To be sure, this is somewhat rustic but overall it is really very good.’ Drink 2026 + Allen Meadows, Burghound.
Fourrier Comte de Chapelle Bourgogne Blanc 2022 $145/$130.50
Great concentration here from a Bourgogne Blanc. Texturally has an elevated presence, medium weighted, there's notes of lemon balm, pith and white stonefruit. Silky feel to the fruit in the mouth with a hint of nut. Delicious fuller framed White Burgundy. Jeremy Muller, FWC.
Faiveley Nuits St Georges 1er Cru 'Les Damodes' 2022 $290/$261
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes is ample and perfumed, wafting from the glass with aromas of plums, orange zest, potpourri and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a pure and vibrant core of fruit, melting tannins and a saline finish, it's immensely charming. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Benjamin Leroux Meursault 2022 $310/$279
For Village level, this wine has great depth & intensity with those oily nuts again, lots of ripe fruit, then some lemon pith notes with long cleansing acidity. The texture & concentration are special – could be Premier Cru! Ian Cook, FWC.
Benoit Moreau Chassagne Montrachet 2022 $310/$279
We had to have one genuine classic in the whites, and here it is. Beautiful ripeness and power . A top producer and a great vintage. After Paul Pillot, this is one of the top producers in Chassagne. This one could do with 2-5 years in the cellar. Ian Cook – FWC.
Hubert Lamy Saint Aubin 'Les Frionnes' 1er Cru 2022 $330/$297
“The 2022 Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes 1er Cru comes from Kimmeridgian soils. This feels focused and mineral-driven on the nose, similar to the Les Murgers des Dents de Chien. There are fleeting touches of oyster shell and fruits de mer blossoming in the glass. The palate is very well balanced, fresh and taut, with a killer line of acidity. The initial roundness dovetails into a stricter and more linear finish. This is superb.” Neal Martin, Vinous
