This year’s Oracle rekindles our love of the world’s best grape variety: Riesling. The Cook family’s trip along the Mosel and into Nahe, Rheinhessen and Pflaz when visiting Germany in June of this year is the subject of our feature article on page 6. Here we feature appointments (and subsequent wines) at JJ Prum, Clemens Busch, Heymann Löwenstein, Wittmann, Donnhoff and Burklin Wolf. But what Germany can do, so can we. Crawford River Riesling remains Australia’s best interpretation of the grape variety, while relative newcomers Schmolzer & Brown and Restless Bunch Experiment (on pages 18 and 11 respectively) show the diversity of style across different Victorian regions.

We also shine light on two producers who have really impressed us this year in Domaine Saint Damien (page 30) and Cascina Penna-Currado (page 36). Finally, considering the time of year, we have enjoyed highlighting the best of the grower Champagne movement, with some old favourites and welcomed newcomers featured in the pages to come.
