Sylvain Pataille Bourgogne Aligote 'Champ Forey' 2020
Pataille farms just 0.3 hectares of ancient vines in the lieu-dit of Champ Forey in Marsannay-la-Cote. Planted between 1932 and 1961, the Aligote Dore vines sit at 250 metres elevation and face east on gravelly limestone soils. Champ Forey ferments chiefly in used casks (just 15% new), then ages for one year before bottling.
Five Star Wine. From 1930s, 1950s and 1960s plantings on alluvial stones. Having spent one year in old 350 litre barrels, this has now been racked to tank with all its lees. Deeper in colour than the Bouzeron with a more powerful nose. To bottle in January. Very complex bouquet, some tingle factor, some floral. Much fresher with some peaches too but also fresh citrus. Lovely crisp aftertaste. 88-91 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
