Rockford Rifle Range Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
$100
I do like Barossa Cabernet.
This is an interesting wine, and sort of atypical for Rifle Range. In some respects, it reminds me a little of a more modern expression of Barolo from a warm vintage, which indeed is a very strange thing to say, though that’s how I find it. It’s all dark cherry and plum, new leather, some tar and roses, liquorice, menthol, a smattering of cedar oak. It’s slightly baked in fruit profile, but has supple grainy tannin, a dried herb character, walnut and earthy flavours, with a minty finish of good length. I like it, but it’s a different expression of RR, that’s for sure. Drink 2023-2030. 91 Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
