Lafarge Bourgogne Passetoutgrains 'l'Exception' 2020
From vines planted in 1930's on gravel and sandy soil that suits the Gamay/Pinot field blend. Oddly, both varieties reach maturity at the same time. Normally Gamay would ripen quite a bit earlier. It seems that this vineyard is in harmony.
'The 2020 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain is the usual 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay from 90-year old vines. Light blueberry and strawberry scents on the nose that is well-defined, the palate is stylistically equidistant between Pinot Noir and Gamay, the finish just a little tart and short. Drink 2021-2024' (85-87) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Oct 2021.
'The 2020 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain l'Exception bursts with aromas of sweet red berries, petals and orange rind. Medium-bodied, bright and lively, with powdery tannins and a tightly knit core, don't underestimate this bottling: it will really reward some patience, and especially so this year.Drink 2023-2040' 88+ points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate Jan 2022.
'Picked on 5th September. Pale purple with a gorgeous hedonistic but not overly exotic nose. More acidity behind from the gamay but this has layers of juicy ripe cherry fruit. Very lively. Tasted: October 2021. 87-89 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
