Limefinger The Learnings Watervale Riesling 2023
This is the second vintage of Neil Pike's new project, only small quantities are made and boy are they delicious.
The Learnings is so open and effusive. The aromatics of dried lime leaf, green mango and guava leap from the glass, begging you to bring the glass to the lips. On the palate it's more in the fleshy citrus edge, with juicy fruit and tangy acid meshing beautifully. There's so much flavour and accessibility, you'll drink your stash quickly. Jeremy Muller, FWC.
This is probably the best Watervale Riesling I’ve tasted from Limefinger. I dislike the word ‘learnings’, though that’ a the only thing I don’t like about the wine.
Lime, lemongrass, fennel, and quite some perfume here too. It’s juicy and flavoursome, a lovely intense delivery of lime, lime zest and bathtime fun perfume, fine chalk dust texture, firm acidity, though it’s so well-bedded into the wine that it’s delivered with an almost gentle touch, there’s some gin and tonic bite too, on a finish of excellent length and intensity. It also has a stony/mineral character too. Gee, it’s very good, and if you love Watervale, you’d be hard pressed to do better. Yum. Drink 2023-2033+. 95+ Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
