Giaconda Shiraz 2021
We have just sampled the Nebbiolo and having loved it, we thought we’d better now sample the Shiraz. Medium red crimson in colour, with a deep, deep nose of blackberry and ‘cool’ red fruit. You can see inherent power here, despite the liveliness of the palate. There are layers to the flavour where I see some game maet and a suggestion of walnut before a big lick of acid washes the palate with freshness. Tannins are very fine and graphite-like. Overall, it’s the depth of flavour that is particularly enchanting, like looking deep into a well. Always the dark horse in the Giaconda range, this is not to be missed and will cellar extremely well. - Ches Cook, FWC.
Dark red to coal black in colour. Notes of damp forest floor combine with a zephyr of savoury meats and campfire smoke, with raspberry and star anise notes lifted by the whole-bunch component. Round and rich with a satisfying fruit-laden palate of wild berries coming to the fore. The tannins are powder-fine and convey red fruits with a twist of spiced vanilla oak, long on the palate. Evocative and immensely complex, this finishes with a strong mineral and graphite impact. A wine that is destined to have a long future. Winery’s notes.
