Dark cherries and dark plums sit alongside dark licorice and with an amalgam of brown spices in tow. I found the Trott to have the best balance between the core fruit and savoury elements, there was a ferrous, iron like note observable as well. Grenache with its tendency to accumulate sugars easily can easily branch over into the jubey character but this has been picked at the perfect time, a plush core of fruit but such a great line of energetic acidity with ripe and fine tannin framing it all. An excellent example of why Australian grenache continues to shine. Cameron Roebuck, FWC.

From the top rows of 1952-planted grenache on sandy soils over clay and ironstone. Again, 10% whole bunch, mostly steel, with about 15% in an older puncheon. Grenache may not love air during winemaking, but, made in a sensitive way, it loves it in the decanter/glass. There are so many layers, which peel away with patience – dark red berries and black cherries, the slightly deeper Trott signature. Beneath there emerges much more delicacy, with pomegranate, goji, fine souk spice notes, crushed rose, musk, bergamot tea. It’s savoury, too, delightfully so, both in fruit flavour and architecture, the tannins chewy, silty, commanding but not strident. The acidity, in this warmer year, is vivid. What a stunning wine. 97 + points, drink 2026-2038, Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion.
