Johnno’s Semillon is the wine that sees the old basket press rather than the more contemporary pneumatic press in the winery. The result is quite clear: a fleshier, more textural experience. Where Vat 1 is racy and tight in its youth, Johnno’s is more grippy and pithy. It carries that same high-tone acid and shows some ‘sunlight soap’ underneath the more classic lemongrass/lemon pip citrus notes typical to young Semillon. It’s built to last but I think it has some generosity to it already, meaning opening a bottle or two soon is no crime. – Ches Cook, FWC.
