Shaw + Smith Balhannah Shiraz 2016
Medium weight and svelte thing this. Dark-sweet plummy fruit character swiped with gamey-meaty-bacony character and gentle, sweet spice. It’s got beautiful perfume, the palate glorious in fruit flavour and savouriness, a little extra burr to tannin distracts things a little, a touch of a shudder down the mouth as it rolls on. Long finish with a fan of flavour and a flourish of finer tannin. Pretty darn classy here. And best after five years I wager. 94+ Points – Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
