Sauzet Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 2018
Note: from a 1 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines that see 40% new wood. This also flirts with the exotic but remains pure and fresh and I like the fine layering of the airy aromas of acacia blossom, lavender, tangerine peel and essence of spiced pear. There is excellent concentration to the moderately powerful and sappy medium-bodied flavors that possess even better depth on the lingering finish where about the only nit is a touch of warmth. This stylish effort is quite classy and should age effortlessly. Score: 91-94, Tasted: Jun 10, 2020, Drink: 2028+ Issue: 79 - Sweet spot Outstanding. Allen Meadows, Burghound.com.
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is performing well in bottle, unwinding in the glass with notes of white flowers, pear and peach, framed by a deft touch of toasty new oak. Full-bodied, lively and textural, as I observed last year, it's the most reserved of Sauzet's premiers crus; but the inherently open, charming style of the vintage means that it will drink at its peak sooner than the more structured 2017. Drink 2022 – 2040. 93 Points. William Kelley. The Wine Advocate.
