Sandro Fay Valtellina Superiore Sassella 'Il Glicine' 2021
From the Sassella sub zone toward the western side of the Valtellina area. 2021 was a warmer year according to winemaker Marco Fay in which a warm spring and summer was interrupted by rain and cold weather in the back half of September that slowed ripening conditions. The resultant wine is a poised expression of power and delicacy. Great depth of flavours of blood orange, mandarin and alpine herbs. A focused wine ready to drink now and exceptional value in the context of Nebbiolo.

Nebbiolo from Lombardy -
As is becoming more and more obvious, the wines of Valtellina, from good producers, are only getting better and better. Aided by a rise in annual temperatures and spurred on by fresh, mountain air blowing off the Alpes, wines such as this are a delight to drink. Showing impressive concentration for Nebbiolo grown at this sort of elevation (500-600m), it has enough flesh on the bone to provide immediate enjoyment, while some back-half austerity (inherent to Nebbiolo) provides structure and grippy tannin to close. A wide flavour spectrum from black cherry to dried pine needle sing true to the region which is become more and more talked about, and for good reason. - Ches Cook, FWC.
