Pieropan is regarded as the very best producer of Soave in the Veneto. The Five Ways Team certainly agree.
The Calvarino vineyard is the original nucleus of the family homestead, where the traditional varieties, Garganega and Trebbiano, are grown in their customary percentages, respectively 70% and 30%. The soil is volcanic in origin rich in basalt and Tufa. It represent Soave’s highest and finest quality level: lively, crisp and fruity, complex on the palate, with minerality, green almond and a precise and well balanced finish. The first Calvarino label was made in 1971. It matches a great variety of dishes, and is ideal with vegetable terrines, cheese soufflés, asparagus risotto and delicate fish dishes, and a terrific drop all on its own as soon as you arrive home. - Ian Cook, FWC. *Note from previous vintage
