Mark Haisma Gevrey Chambertin 2019
A few weeks ago I took a bottle of Haisma Bourgogne rouge home. It was my first experience with the wines of the half French/half Australian winemaker. I loved the wine for its vibrancy and elegance so I was compelled to take the next step and try his village Gerry Chambertin. Again, I haven’t been disappointed. This a great wine and quite a serious wine. Its overall feel is one of depth and elegance: it shows black cherry, touches of anise, Chinese five spice and mushroom. It’s quite typical to region (Burgundy) and sub-region (Gevry) while being at the more elegant end of the Gerry spectrum. While youthful, it’s bright, giving and beautiful already. Tannins are slightly grippy and drying, showing structure and longevity. It’s fantastic. - Ches Cook, FWC.
Lots of rosy perfume, spice, earthy, a little sweet oak. Dark cherry, grainy tannin grip, fleshy, acidity is balanced, but kind of subdued, leans more towards tannin impact here, and lots of oomph. Needs time. Excellent. Drink 2024-2033+. 94+ Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village unfurls in the glass with notes of rose petals, plummy fruit and spices. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and nicely concentrated, it concludes with a saline finish. Like its 2018 counterpart, it's quite marked by the use of stems, but it's more integrated and texturally refined. 89-91 Points. William Kelley, The Wine Advocate.
