Main Ridge 1/2 Acre Pinot Noir 2017
“A compelling reflection of site and meticulous winemaking”. - Andrew Caillard, MW.
The Half Acre comes from a plot of vines up on the crest of the hill where the topsoil is very shallow before the roots hit dense red clay. The berries are much smaller meaning a higher skin to juice ratio. Despite being made in the same way as ‘The Acre’ the additional structure, power and concentration from this plot is immediately evident. Floral high notes and red berries married to a darker core of black cherry, earth, autumnal notes, forest floor, brown spice, and some coffee grounds. The tannin is definitely more present here – quite firm but extremely fine. A compelling wine. It wouldn’t be a crime to eat this with duck right now, but you really do want to give it a spell in the cellar. It’s a have your cake and eat it wine. - FWC.
