Hoddles Creek is north facing and is the slightly cooler site of the two Chardonnay vineyards Mac is currently working with. Ripeness here is spot on: fruit is in the white stone fruit spectrum with white peach and green apple flavours building and building upon themselves in coiled layers of flavour that I would expect to unfurl gradually over a few years in bottle. Acid is elevated and racy and is perfectly supported by this fruit, with an almost salty freshness to the crisp finish. Totally delicious but also nicely structured with a long and linear shape to the wine driven by the acid already mentioned and given weight and support by the intensity of the fruit that the vintage has delivered. – Ches Cook, FWC.
