Joshua Cooper The Old Port Righ Chardonnay 2019
Of the three Chardonnays, this is perhaps the tightest with the most acid evident. I don’t want to mislead anyone here though – in no way is this acid obtrusive or pokey. Rather, it contributes to a long and fine Chardonnay, one where the fruit is not as rounded as in the other two wines from this vintage. Perhaps it will be the longest lived? Just a thought. But for now, it successfully incorporates white fleshed fruit, some citrus, lemon balm and that mealy, slightly nutty finish that all the whites have in common. Zingy, alive and pure. – Ches Cook, FWC.
What a wonderful name for a vineyard. Beautiful wine, sleek and slim, lemon curd meets green apple, strong talc-like mineral characters, jasmine and frangipani floral notes, faintest salted nutty savouriness in the mix. Rolls epically long, so perfect, so clean, so fine, lots of good inward concentration, general sense of vitality and energy. Brilliant wine, just missing that extra dimension this year to take it to the next level, but it sits at an epic one anyway. Drink 2020-2028. 95 Points – Mike Bennie, The WineFront.
